covid-19 update

Dear Westside Dance Physical Therapy Family

This has been quite a year! It was just over 8 weeks ago that we closed the clinic and hunkered down at home. We hope you, your family, and your friends and loved ones are safe and well. Few of us will be untouched by the disease in some way before circumstances allow us to fully return to our new reality of daily life beyond the four walls of our homes. Your well-being is rarely far from our thoughts. We know that our profession plays a crucial role in the health of our society, and we appreciate your patience during this temporary disruption of your care.

Since March 16th, we have tried our best to do our part to flatten the curve of the COVID-19 outbreak by following CDC guidelines that serve to minimize exposure of both our staff and our patients. Thank you to those who have embraced our telehealth services and fundraising efforts for the NYC performing arts community.

With the support of our professional organization, the American Physical Therapy Association, we have decided to reopen the clinic on a limited basis on Monday, June 1st. WSDPT will be modifying its practices in order to best protect both the clinic staff and our patients. This includes following CDC guideline updates, understanding who is at highest risk and how to best reduce exposure, and using professional judgment to continue or limit care.

Beginning Monday, June 1st, full time PT staff will be reopening the clinic according to the following guidelines:

Daily Operations

  • For the month June, WSDPT will be open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm.

  • Each staff PT’s schedule will be reduced and condensed.

  • Patient appointments will be scheduled on a staggered basis in order to reduce the number of patients and staff in the clinic.

  • A maximum of 4 patients will be scheduled at any given time during the day.

  • All patients will be scheduled for a one-hour time interval. This includes time to check in, have your treatment, pay for service and exit the clinic. Total treatment time will be approximately 45 minutes.

  • Locker room use will be limited to one person at a time.

  • Our modality room is currently closed. If you require any modality such as heat, laser etc. it will be applied during your treatment time.

  • Clothing will no longer be loaned out for patient use. Please bring a separate change of clothes for your appointment.

  • Pilates, massage and acupuncture services will not be available at this time.

  • Classes will continue via a virtual platform. We will be announcing new online classes in the coming weeks!

Sanitizing Protocols
  • All surfaces in the front office, waiting room, treatment rooms and bathrooms will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between patients including treatment tables, doorknobs, light switches countertops, desks, keyboards, toilets, sinks, faucets, PT equipment and anything else touched during the treatment session.

  • Treatment tables have been spread out to allow for a minimum of 6 feet between patients and practitioners. In addition, each treatment space and the front desk is now separated by a Plexiglass partition.

Employee Health and Safety Measures
  • All front desk and medical staff will be wearing masks. Gloves may also be requested.

  • All front desk staff and medical staff will receive daily body temperature screenings before the start of each shift.

  • Any employee with a temperature at or above 99.8 degrees F or with cough/respiratory symptoms will be asked to leave the clinic, seek medical care immediately and require a physician’s note to return to work.

Guidelines for Patients
  • Please contact your physical therapist directly to book an appointment instead of calling the front desk. Staff emails are listed at the bottom of this page.

  • For new patients who wish to set up an initial Physical Therapy evaluation in clinic or Telehealth, please call our front office and leave us a message or contact us via email

  • All patients will be required to wear a mask or face covering that they bring to the clinic. We will not be providing masks.

  • All patients will be required to take a body temperature screening upon arrival. This will be performed at the front desk by your treating therapist prior to you entering the treatment area. Although the CDC describes 100.4 degrees F as a temperature for you to stay home, if you have a temperature at or above 99.8 degrees F or present with cough/respiratory symptoms, you will be asked to leave the clinic immediately.

  • You will be required to wash your hands prior to the start of an appointment for at least 20 seconds. In addition, an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% rubbing alcohol will be readily available for use.

  • Payment for services will be handled at the front desk prior to the start of your visit.

  • Family members, friends and home health aides will no longer be allowed to attend your appointment . They will need to remain in the waiting room area.

  • Please consider continuing your PT remotely via Telehealth if you are uncomfortable returning to the clinic or currently have risk factors for severe disease. Everyone is at risk of getting COVID-19. Older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions may be at higher risk for more severe illness.

    • According to the CDC, individuals who are at high-risk for severe illness from COVID-19 include:

      • People 65 years and older.

      • People with chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma.

      • People who have serious heart conditions.

      • People who are immunocompromised including: individuals undergoing cancer treatment, bone marrow or organ transplantation, those dealing with immune deficiencies, poorly controlled HIV or AIDS, prolonged use of corticosteroids and other immune weakening medications.

      • Smokers.

      • People with severe obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 40 or higher).

      • People with diabetes.

      • People with chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis.

      • People with liver disease.

  • All patients will be required to complete a prescreening form prior to your first visit back with us in the clinic. Forms will be available for download online on our website, Patient forms   Please download the form, complete it and scan it to your therapist prior to your visit. Please note that we reserve the right to regulate in-person physical therapy visits based on the answers on this prescreening form as well as any patient’s health status.

  • Medicare is now reimbursing for Telehealth services as of March 1st, 2020. Please contact your insurance carrier directly with any further questions regarding reimbursement for virtual PT services at this time.

Thank you again for all of the support you've shown us during this time. We look forward to working with all of you in the future. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions. Emails can be directed to andrea@westsidedancept.com.
